Science
I started working with Peter Nugent this summer (2011) on cosmological simulations and visualizing extremely large datasets.
The Center for Computational Sciences and Engineering at LBL is developing a new code called Nyx in collaboration with Peter, Zarija Lukic, and me. Nyx is a cosmological AMR simulation code designed to scale to some of the largest machines in the world. These extremely parallel, performant codes are necessary to take advantage of the upcoming generation of supercomputers.
I am currently working on visualizing Nyx runs with yt, an astrophysics analysis package built in Python. I have a lot of fun playing on the interface between the high-performance computing, high-level language, and data viz worlds.
